Sidney, BC.; The Town of Sidney is excited to announce that Cathy Noel of Choice Events Ltd. will be organizing the 2019 Sidney Seaside 5k / 8k race. The race had initially been postponed this year as the previous organizer stepped away from the event but at this past Monday’s Council meeting, Ms. Noel’s presentation to Council convinced them that she is ready to pick up the race and make it happen this year and into the future.
Noel’s impressive race resume includes present Race Director and Founder of the Goddess Run as well as the current General Manager for the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon.
Cathy Noel states; “I am excited about taking on the challenge, increasing the number of participants and involving the Sidney community including students, the business community and residents. I look forward to unveiling the finisher's medal, raising money for charity and giving participants of all ages and abilities a goal to get themselves to the start line. The timing of this event is a perfect warm up for those running the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon, Half Marathon or 8k Turkey Trot, 3 weeks later.”
This year’s race will take place on Sunday, September 22 and registration will open on July 19. It will maintain the 5k, 8k and kids run distances, but Noel is looking at ways to reduce the impact on residents along the race route by using half the road.
The race will also require a large number of volunteers for marshals, finish line, recovery food zone, water stations, package pickup, set up and take down. Groups and individuals are encouraged to contact Cathy if they are interested in being a part of this exciting event.
The organizer will be taking applications from charities prior to going live with online registration. They are looking for potentially two charities this year that will receive 100% of all pledges raised by participants. It is anticipated that participating charities will help promote the event and volunteer on race day. This is a part of the race that Cathy is excited to grow, as the potential impact can be significant.
Current sponsors of the event include 365 Day Media Group, Elite Promotional Marketing, Fairway Market and the Town of Sidney. Other corporate sponsors and suppliers are being sought to get involved at all levels and to make this race something special in Sidney.
